Acupuncture is a therapy of East Asian origin dating back more than 2,500 years. It involves inserting thin, single-use, sterile needles into the skin to balance energy, promote healing, and prevent disease. Many studies have shown that acupuncture provides a wide range of health benefits and can be utilized as a stand alone therapy, or as an adjunct to other forms of treatment. This form of medicine treats the whole system rather than its individual parts, harnessing the existing energy (Qi) to assist the body in healing itself. This energy is accessed via acupuncture points located on meridians and evokes a natural healing response through various physiological systems.

At Serenity, our acupuncturists also use other Traditional Chinese Medicine healing techniques such as electroacupuncture, auriculotherapy, fire cupping, gua sha, moxibustion, infrared heat therapy, and Chinese dietary therapy.

Reiki means "universal life energy." It's an ancient healing method that manipulates energy flow in the body. Reiki practitioners believe there is an energy force in and around the body. They believe that there is a flow of energy between the reiki practitioner and the receiver of the treatment. A Reiki practitioner gently moves their hands just above or on the client’s clothed body, with the intention of reducing stress and promoting healing by encouraging a healthy flow of energy.

Although reiki isn’t a cure for any specific ailment, it has been used along with Western medicine to help patients suffering from cancer, Parkinson’s disease, long Covid, and other health conditions. These days, reiki therapy is widely available at respected medical centers and hospitals including the Mayo Clinic, Memorial Sloan Kettering, and the Cleveland Clinic.

Dr. Link is a Naturopathic Doctor who earned her degree at National University of Health Sciences and a BS in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

The principals of naturopathic medicine are near and dear to her heart. Dr. Link developed a rare autoimmune disease at 3 years old, and spent a majority of her life trying to advocate for her health. Unfortunately, she was dismissed by almost every doctor she saw, and healed herself with what she would end up coming to realize was naturopathic medicine. Dr. Link practices with empathy and compassion, and wants every one of her patients to feel heard and supported.

Dr. Link gains a complete insight into her patient’s health by investigating symptoms, determinants of health, past medical history, and results from comprehensive labs. This approach allows her to uncover the root cause of illness, individualize her care plans, and treat the whole person. Dr. Link is passionate about patient education and empowerment. Rebecca began her journey in manual therapy in 2006 when she entered the massage therapy program at the Soma Institute for Clinical Massage Therapy in Chicago.

After practicing massage for a number of years, a transformational experience receiving Craniosacral therapy inspired her to specialize in this light-touch modality. Dr. Upledger, who developed Craniosacral therapy, reminds us that, “when dealing with the human body, a small force over a long time can do more than a strong force over a short time.”

Outside of work, Rebecca is passionate about continuing her education, volunteering frequently as a teaching assistant for CST courses, teaching CST for massage therapy students, and leading study groups for other Chicago-area craniosacral therapists. She enjoys riding horses (and does CST for them as well), dancing, going to concerts, and supporting the arts.
